Humans have kept plants in their homes for the last two millenniums. These were the times of Ancient Rome but the people who came before that were keeping plants in their homes for decorative purposes. Given the long history of indoor plants, you would assume that humans would have perfected the art of tending to them. Sadly, many people struggle to keep indoor plants alive. Therefore, some people want a fix. There are a number of ways you can do better. For any plant to survive, it needs light and water. Sunlight is needed for the plants to make their own food. However, too much or little light will make them dry out or starve. Therefore, keep the plants near an open window to get enough light. Additionally, do not use water with contaminants in watering them because this will be poison to them. You should only use spring water or rainwater to keep them hydrated. Faucet water filters will remove the chlorine from the water making it safe for the plants.
Drainage is also important in keeping indoor plants alive. This prevents the issue of drowning the plant. When you are using pots without drainage holes, you can place an absorbent material at the bottom before filling the pot with soil. You can use charcoal, stones, pebbles or even peanuts. The penetration of water through items which have finer particles is much better which means what you choose should have particles finer than soil. A lot of potting soil is made by combining sand, clay and silt. Given that clay is the finest, it will make a good choice. Do not forget how important it is to prevent drowning of the potted plant. Plant pruning is important to keep them healthy. This should be done annually. With low temperatures, the plants will be needing this even more. Pruning eliminated the sickly, unhealthy and weak branches. The unpruned plants have a top-heavy look or they become lopsided and this is something you want to avoid. If you are not careful, the lopsided effect will be the end of your plant because the end result will be a collapse. Many trees will not grow when it is cold which is why you should prune at that period and you can learn more about this here.
